Pat the Expat

Have you ever counted how many friends do you have now? Have you ever counted how many people do you currently know? We had these friends or acquaintances that have entered our lives, since kindergarten age to school age then working age. Some of them are still kept in touch 'til today while the others that we didn't share many experience with, may be forgotten... Today, I have met someone I used to know.  On the way back home, I was getting down from the bus while he was standing at the same bus stop. We made eye contact. He looked at me. His face seemed familiar to me but I wasn’t curious enough to react something. As I was passing him, he waved at me to say hi. Our conversation started since then… I couldn’t recall his name, nor did he remember mine. So we continued our conversation by “reintroducing” ourselves to each other. We both remembered that we were at the same university. He remembered the faculty which I was in but I couldn’t remem...

คุณเคยนับดูไหมว่า ตอนนี้คุณมีเพื่อนอยู่กี่คน คุณเคยนับดูไหมว่า ตอนนี้คุณมีคนที่รู้จักอยู่เท่าไหร่ เพื่อน หรือ คนรู้จักที่ผ่านเข้ามาในชีวิตของเรา ตั้งแต่สมัย อนุบาล ประถม มัธยม มหาวิทยาลัย จนถึงวัยทำงาน บางคนเราก็ยังคบหาอยู่จนถึงปัจจุบัน บางคนที่เราไม่ได้มีประสบการณ์ร่วมด้วยมากนักก็อาจถูกลืมไป... วันนี้ ฉันได้พบกับเพื่อนเก่าหรือคนที่เคยรู้จักกัน ขณะกำลังเดินทางกลับบ้าน ฉันเพิ่งก้าวลงมาจากรถโดยสาร เขายืนอยู่ที่ป้ายรถโดยสาร   เราสบตากัน เขามองหน้าฉัน ฉันรู้สึกคุ้นหน้าเขาแต่ก็ไม่ได้สนใจ ขณะกำลังจะเดินผ่านไป เขาหันมาทักฉันด้วยการโบกมือ บทสนทนาของเราจึงเริ่มขึ้น... เขาจำชื่อฉันไม่ได้ ฉันก็จำชื่อเขาไม่ได้ เราจึงต้องเริ่มแนะนำตัวเองกันใหม่ เราทั้งคู่จำได้ว่าเคยเป็นศิษย์ร่วมสถาบันเดียวกัน... เขาจำคณะที่ฉันศึกษาได้ แต่ฉันจำไม่ได้ว่าเขาศึกษาคณะอะไร เขาพยายามนึกว่าเรารู้จักกันได้อย่างไร แต่นึกเท่าไหร่เราทั้งคู่ก็นึกไม่ออก จึงเปลี่ยนจากการรื้อฟื้นความทรงจำมาเป็นการถามไถ่สารทุกข์สุกดิบและชีวิตความเป็นไปของแต่ละคน และเมื่อถึงเวลาต้องลา เราทั้งสองต่างอวยพรให้อีกฝ่ายโชค...
